CANDIDATE FIRST INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Candidate First Interview - Followup Call Checklist
• Tell me about the interview. (Listen for hesitation)
• What happened? Walk me through it. (Gather all objections,
but don’t try to overcome them yet.)
• Who did you meet? What were their titles?
• Was the interview personal or technical? What did they ask?
(Search for kindred spirit)
• What do you think the three hiring priorities are?
• How is it different from what I described?
• Can you do the job? (If “Yes”, Where specifically
have you done it?) (If “No”, Why not?) Measure the alternatives.
• Was money discussed? Who brought it up? What was said?
• Why go back? What are the positives? How important is that
(or why is that important) to you? (Build their excitement.)
• No job is perfect. What are the weaknesses? (Get all their
concerns. Measure deal-breakers – ex. logistics, lack of spouse
support, travel, over- or under-qualified, “chemical imbalance”).
• How does this compare to the other things you have going?
• Specifically, how did you leave things?
• Gut check. What does your instinct say?
• “I will now go get you feedback. Based on what you know,
if they want to see you again, do you want to pursue?” Get schedule
for next interviews.
